Bumps

Bumps

It’s Bumps racing. At the start, fourteen crews line up bow to stern, with 130 feet of clear water between them. At the sound of a cannon, all crews start rowing simultaneously. The object is to catch up to and ‘bump’ the crew ahead: oar on oar, oar on boat, boat on boat etc. If you do that, you’ve won your race, and you move up in the standings. If you get bumped, you move down in the standings. If you don’t bump or get bumped before you ‘row over’ the finish line (2000m down the course), you keep your place in the standings.
