Wolfson College Boat Club, Oxford

About the Club

wolfson_stcross_bladesWolfson College Boat Club is one of the premiere college boat clubs within the Oxford University system. As one of the many clubs and societies associated with Wolfson College, we train year-round on the Isis and compete in regattas within Oxford and beyond. We are open to all members of Wolfson College as well as St. Cross College.

WCBC is a dynamic community of students and fellows and is very active in the life of the college. Social events take place throughout the year, including crew dates, barbecues, bops, and the famous boat club dinners after each major regatta.

Wolfson College Boat Club has been extremely successful in recent years. We have obtained great results in intercollegiate events such as Christ Church Regatta, Torpids, and Summer Eights. In 2013, W1 broke into Division I in Summer VIIIs, whilst M1 finished fifth on the river. In 2011, M1 won blades in Torpids and Summer VIIIs. In 2010, four Wolfson crews won blades: W2 and M1 in Torpids and M2 and M1 in Summer Eights, placing the men at the top of the college rankings! We are also active in external regattas such as the Head of the River Race and Henley Royal Regatta.

History

Wolfson College Boat Club first competed in Summer VIIIs on Wednesday 28th May 1969, only 3 years after Sir Isaiah Berlin was named head of Wolfson College, and several years before the first of Wolfson’s buildings was opened. Since then, we were a founding competitor in the women’s bumps divisions, fought through a boathouse arson, and celebrated as our men’s and women’s crews reached 4th on the River at various periods. Full details of our history can be found here.

We are always looking for more stories and pictures from our history. If you have any to share, please contribute them here or e-mail us.

Support Wolfson

If you are a current student or faculty member at Wolfson or St. Cross Colleges, your best way to support us is by joining! Rowing and coxing are fantastic experiences that really connect you to college life.

Friends and family might consider donating to the Boat Club. The club provides a hugely valuable opportunity to students and the college community, but buying boats is expensive. The more funding we have available, the more rowers we are able to put on the water!

Finally, Wolfson College Boat Club is currently looking for a primary corporate sponsor. As Oxford’s largest postgraduate college boat club, Wolfson provides a number of unique advantages for our sponsors. You can find more information about sponsorship by clicking here.
